I like the foot print and gentle flow. The lid takes getting used to and the fit is awkward. Just one recommendation to new users. I would avoid Bulk Reef Supply GFO. It is way too fine (dust like) for this reactor. No matter how much you rinse, the brown film enters your water column through the screen and foam used on the lid.... What a mess. Just watch the size of the any media as even BRS ROX carbon is small enough to cause some grief....
In my experience, BRS's High Capacity (HC) GFO works very well and does not have the brown dust problem. Regular GFO is softer and will do this if tumbled too aggressively. BRS Rox should be held in place with the fine mesh stainless steel screen for a day or so until it fully hydrates. Then, cut the flow to the reactor, so it drops down. Remove the screen and swirl the reactor a bit to convince all the Rox particles to sink. When you turn the flow back on, it will remain low, and you can then run the reactor without a lid, which reduces maintenance even more.
Been having problems with high nitrate. Going to give this a try. Very easy to assemble and get going. High quality. Also the quietest thing in my sump!!!
I love this unit. Tumble rate is fully adjustable. Small footprint . Easy to replace media design. No Thumbscrews. Sicce pump powerful. Definitely buy this again, Bobby
So far this is awesome and has solved my high phosphate levels literally overnight! For years I battled high phosphorus levels (above 1.00) and have tried everything from using the messy cheato (which always clog my pumps), to phos RX which was just a temporary band-aid. Almost every piece of equipment I own is a product from Avast Marine. Keep up the GREAT work Justin & Dan!!
